Contrasting weather

As we browse through FaceBook, it is strange to see the stories of the polar vortex reigning terror on the United States.  We only see sunshine and warm temperatures. The kids really miss the snow and cold weather. I am not missing it at all.(Jen)  We DO miss Fall, Walmart, our home church, our friends, Chick fil A, and beef :) !  BUT - we love it here - we love serving God and we love loving on the kids!!!  Thank you so very much for your part in helping us be here in our sweet spot!! Sometimes I feel overwhelmed that God chose us to serve Him here.  It is such a privilege and we are so grateful and blessed to be here!!
We are excited about an opportunity to work with Pastor Javier in a new church in the barrio of San Francisco. Because of this picture Pastor Javier is now lovingly known as El Pequeño Gigante - The Little Giant.

Pastor Javier's church - Christ is the Way Baptist Church - has a small building that is being used for services.  We are planning to build a wall and roof for an open air classroom in the back to be used for children's Sunday school.  Our family and our teammates the Langs are teaching the children along with the pastor's daughter Carolina.
What do you do when you are starting a new church and do not have and guitar or keyboard player?  If only you had a little box that could play all the songs in the hymnal in any key and tempo.  At the new church plant we are using the Gloria Player.  It plays all the songs in the hymnal Celebremos Su Gloria which includes many hymns and choruses of Latin American origin as well as those familiar in English.  This works great for a new church plant.  Thank you to our sending church Washington Heights Baptist for this great resource.
We get to invest in the life of Naomi!! Yay!!
We were excited to have my Dad & Mom visit us!  We had so much fun showing them our life here.  We miss them but we are so thankful they were able to come!

The "kids" at El Camino are loco.
We would like to share some praises and prayer requests with you:
  1. The church plant with Pastor Javier. Pray for Javier as he seeks to build relationships in the community and preaches in the church.  Pray for us and our teammates as we seek to assist Javier in the work.
  2. We have another ministry opportunity and we need wisdom to know if God wants us to pursue it.
  3. Two new locations will be starting church planter classes in the next month. pray that God will give wisdom in planning these new classes and for all the pastors and their wives who will attend.
  4. For the kids we teach each week in our ministry - that they will listen to and embrace the gospel and will be faithful in growing in their relationship with Christ.
  5. Praise that our two oldest boys made the basketball team at school and our kids are doing well in school this year.
  6. Julia moved into the regular Spanish class at school.  This means she is learning Spanish with native speakers and others who are fluent.  This is a big challenge for her as she works to catch up with their level.  She is used to school being easy and now she has a class that is very difficult.
