Prayer letter October/November 2012

What a difference a year makes!  October 2011 was Finish Line Month.  We asked God to help us raise 100% of our support by the end of October 2011.  This was an impossible task, beyond our capability.  But God provided our full support! We praise God for His provision.  Thank you to all of you who prayed for us and are faithfully giving to us.  Of course, that finish line was just the beginning of another “race” – moving to Costa Rica to learn Spanish.  And the year in Costa Rica is flying by and we are nearing the finish line.  We are not fluent but we have learned a lot.  We can communicate in Spanish and are improving all the time.  As we look back on this year in language school we can see how God continues to be faithful to us.  It is Thanksgiving week in the United States and we are reminded again of how much we are blessed and we give thanks to God for many things including:

House – God provided a wonderful house for us to live in – close to school and the park

Friends – we have made many wonderful friends at the language school and our church

Church – we thank God for the people of our church who are patient with our Spanish

Spanish – we are still learning but we can communicate in Spanish!  Thank you, maestros!

Health – we had a few small things but overall everyone has been very healthy

Children – there have been some tough times in transition but our children have complained little.

Ministry – our main purpose in Costa Rica is to learn Spanish but we are thankful for the opportunity to host the church Bible study and be involved in ministry at a local orphanage.

And as we near the finish line of language school we will be beginning another “race”.  This one is a marathon – our ministry in Nicaragua.  We will arrive in Nicaragua in January si Dios quiere (Lord willing).  God has already blessed us there with a great team that we will be joining.  He has also already provided a vehicle – we have purchased a Toyota Hiace van that will be waiting for us when we arrive.  We also have two sets of bunk beds and a dining room table with chairs.  We are hoping to be able to buy other furniture and appliances needed for our house as well.  And speaking of a house – please pray that God will provide us a house to rent that will be wonderful for our family and ministry.  And for all of the other details of moving to Nicaragua.  We are thankful for our teammates, Richard & Cari Woughter for all their help with this transition.

We will be traveling back to the States in December.  We will spend a few days in Florida with Jen’s family and then travel on to Ohio for two weeks.  From there we will fly to Nicaragua in early January.

God has shown Himself faithful and we can trust Him to be faithful in the future.

We appreciate your faithful prayers and support and we pray God’s continued blessing on each one of you!

Enjoy pictures on our website of Culture Sunday.  Our church, Amistad Internacional had a culture Sunday in the park.  People set up tables with items and food from their country.  There was music and presentations from the countries including Costa Rica, Nicaragua, Columbia, Venezuela, Peru, England, and the United States.
