Prayer letter September 2018

The country is stable...for now

I took a trip to Nicaragua the last week of August to see how things were going. I traveled with one of our teammates and another guy from mission headquarters. We traveled around Managua and the surrounding area talking with many people and observing what was going on. There is a lot of road construction but other than that, the roads were accessible and free of blockades. For now there is relative calm; yet below the surface there is still much happening. Protests are still being planned. Last Friday there was a national strike. The conflict is not over. However, we believe that there is enough evidence to indicate that it would be possible for us to return to Nicaragua. We are awaiting a decision from our mission leadership and hope to return to Nicaragua in January. Nicaragua is a hurting country. More needy than ever. The people need to know the God who will be with them through any circumstances.

The ABWE Ministry Center

The ABWE Ministry center was able to host the August church planting classes but the center continues to suffer financially as there are only a few groups using the facilities. Please pray for continued progress toward stability in the country and that we would be able to start hosting camps again. Please pray that God would provide for the monthly financial needs to keep the center running.

The kids are still coming to Rayitos

The church plant and feeding center, Rayitos, continues to minister during these difficult times. As Nicaragua's economy continues to suffer during the conflict, this ministry is even more vital to the community. I enjoyed seeing all the kids again but they all asked me: "Dónde está hermana Jennifer?" They all wanted to know where Jen was. We hope to see them all again soon.
We dropped of two boys at Cedarville! How bittersweet. Excited for this new chapter in their lives but oh how we will miss them terribly!! Love them so much. So proud of them! You’re going to have a great year, Andy and Gabe!!
Congratulations! We are excited that our Tica daughter Priscilla married Esteban. It was a beautiful beach wedding! We were blessed to be a part of this wonderful day!
Prayer requests:
1. The country of Nicaragua - for peace and comfort, for leadership that seeks God, and for the people to seek God during this difficult time.
2. Our national partners - that they would boldly preach the gospel of hope to communities that are hurting and that God would supply their needs as all of our churches are receiving less offerings.
3. For the Ministry Center - there are still many unknowns related to the ministries at the center and the financial needs remain in critical condition.
4. Our children as they are all starting in new school situations - Andy & Gabe at Cedarville University, Ben homeshooling, and Julia at Legacy Christian Academy.
5. Our family as wade through many transitions and make decisions about returning to Nicaragua
6. Our Nicaragua missionary team - this evacuation has wreaked havoc with the lives of our team in many ways. Please pray for peace and wise decisions as we plan for the future. We have a team retreat during the last week of September.
